Scott Potter
Scott is an expert in Business Agility & Resilience, building on a successful Software & Product Development career. With three decades of experience specialising in technology businesses, Scott has become a successful business turn-around and optimisation expert.
Lean & Agile Pioneer
Learning and using Lean principles and specifically Kanban in the early 1990s to increase flow and reduce cycle time, Scott took this into software development. Incremental and evolutionary development models have been used throughout this time. After 1998, this evolved into full scrum product & project management of agile development within large organisations , and then into a broad range of agile techniques, principles and practices. Lean principles and xP practices were used throughout.
For just over a decade, through VFS, Scott has evolved many of the tools and strategies proven to show results, to be effective in small companies and agencies as well as large corporations.
Experienced Technologist
With hands-on experience of software development & architecture across a wide range of technologies and industry sectors, Scott has the experience to guide, and set direction across all levels of your Business's Technology Strategy. Coupled with board level experience, this makes Scott very flexible.
Mentor
Scott says "I was fortunate to work with and learn from many of the pioneers in our field such as James Grenning, Bob Martin and Craig Larman. I remember how they inspired me to think differently, to aspire for better...much better, and the sheer passion for our profession. I want others to experience this contagious enthusiasm and I try to do my bit for our profession, in any little way that I can."
Renowned Expert
In the mid 2000s, Scott was mentored by Ashley Johnson of Gemba Systems, who also inspired the likes of Liz Keough and Dan North in their work such as 'Deliberate Discovery'. Scott had been pioneering these and many other agile practices behind closed doors at Xerox throughout the 2000s. January 2012 saw Scott start to bring this expertise out into our community. Initially agile software development and then DevOps, but increasingly helping companies who design and develop both hardware and software products.
Scott is now known for his innovative and adaptable approaches to transforming technology companies into highly capable and successful technology-savvy businesses that can thrive in times of turmoil and disruption.
Culture Curator
In order to help companies become more agile and more resilient, the company culture and the micro-cultures need to be conducive to high performance where people can thrive and flourish. Scott has become an established figure in the domain of building healthy workplace environments.
